Man wounded in shooting
Ennis police are investigating a shooting that took place Saturday at approximately 12:27 a.m. in the 1400 block of S. Cardinal St. One man was shot in the incident but police have yet to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Det. Lt. Ron Roark said police were dispatched after receiving reports of shots fired in the area. Officer Jeff Bates was flagged down at the scene and observed a black male on the ground who stated he had been hit with a shotgun. Roark said it was later revealed the man was shot in the buttocks with a pistol.
The man was transported to Ennis Regional Medical Center, where the extent of his injuries was unknown as of press time. Roark said police will be questioning the victim and continuing the investigation.

Shoplifter caught
with drugs
An Ennis man is in jail after allegedly walking out of Wal-Mart with a stolen item and possessing marijuana.
According to Det. Sgt. Mike Hopson, Officer Dorinda Clark was dispatched to Wal-Mart, where the suspect was in custody after attempting to shoplift a Bluetooth cell phone headset.
An employee stated the man was caught trying to walk out of the Garden Center gates with the headset he pocketed after cutting open the package with a razorblade. Clark reported that during detaining of the suspect, he tried to hide a small bag that contained a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana.
Billy Ray Jackson, 47, of Ennis was charged with theft of less than $500 shoplifting and possession of marijuana.
