Avalon at Gholson

A year after routing Gholson at home, 52-6, Avalon travels to Waco on Friday. The Eagles, 8-4 in 2016, should prevail again, though the Wildcats, 5-5 last fall, have a new coach in Michael Brand and new energy. Avalon head coach Malcolm Cole expects a well-coached Gholson to take advantage of a talented running back and a WR with size, players who could prove to be tough on the orangle-clad Eagles. QB Eric Smith and halfbacks Miguel Padron and Rhett Newton should light up the night’s sky with their no huddle style. The Birds of Prey defense are known for applying great pressure to prevent foes from finding rhythm. Prediction: Avalon 42, Gholson 20
