Baseball Lions edge Arlington Martin, 6-5

Chase Woods lined the game-winning single in the bottom of the last inning to give Ennis a 6-5 win over Arlington Martin on Thursday at the Drew Medford Memorial Tournament. The threeday event involves 16 teams and is scheduled at four high school sites. Ennis played Arlington Seguin and Mansfield Summit on Friday, with right-handers Drew Graham and Chris Gonzales, both juniors, likely to start on the mound. The Lions and lefty Kade Bragg were slated play at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Arlington Heights. Bragg is a senior. Martin, 31-9-1 a year ago, entered the game with a 3-0 mark. The Warriors got to Jarron Honza, the Lions junior right-hander, for four runs in the top of the second inning. Matt Carter and Elijan Nunez, the big bats for the Tribe, drove in all of the runs. They tacked on another in the fifth on an Austin Bain RBI. Ennis countered with a four-spot in the bottom of the frame off of Sho Reagan. He gave up four hits, four runs and retired two on strikes in two innings. Read stories like this and more in your latest edition of The Ennis News. Be informed, subscribe today!
