Boys, girls earn five first team titles


A juggernaut on the courts for two decades, Keith Howard’s Ennis tennis team won their 15th district championship, including ninth in a row, this fall in team tennis. While they finished with an overall 7-3 record, including a loss in the state tournament, they still dominated District 14-5A in awards. Howard, whose superior ability at maximizing talent is well documented, watched this Lions varsity team produce a state ranking at No. 8 and a 5-0 mark in the district. Coaches at the others schools named Howard the coach of the year again. He is a deserving, multi-year winner. The top male player for the Lions was senior Ben Erdmann, who advanced to the state tourney back in the spring.
