Brewer named MVP of baseball Lions

The Ennis Lions who earned team awards are pictured holding their certificates of achievement. Ennis capped a third straight winning season with a creative end-ofseason awards event that began with the distribution of honors, and then a trip to see the Texas Rangers play in Arlington. The only people who needed to dress up were the Rangers themselves. Head Coach Bob Macy’s Lions, 19-11, qualified for the playoffs for a third consecutive spring, then advanced past Temple to the area round before coming up short in three games to No. 6 Georgetown (25-11-1). The Eagles then edged past No. 3 Magnolia (26-9), two-games-to-one, then fell to Kingwood Park (32-13) in three. K.P. reached the state semi-finals versus Eaton (32-9-1), where the Eagles won, 3-2. Eaton is slated to face Forney (30-11-1) on June 9 for the state crown. Senior Jace Brewer took most valuable player honors for his play in rightfield and for carrying a very productive bat. The 5’10,” 170-pound lefty paced the Pride with a .358 batting average. Read stories like this and more in your latest edition of The Ennis News. Be informed, subscribe today!
