COACHING CAROUSEL – Who is moving where? What about hires of interest?


Changing coaches can be as fickle as teenagers. Some places do it often, like a hawk scatters chickens. The Bible of high school football in Texas, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine, runs a feature every year about the comings and goings at the top. Heading into June, writer Matt Stepp has listed about 30 in Class 6A alone, seven of them with winning records and three who won 10 or more games in 2018. As for the Class 5A coaching carousel, he has posted 35 changes, 14 with plus .500 marks, three of them winning more than 10 games. Stepp briefly sheds light on each divorce and new marriage, citing wins and losses and in most cases, who has been hired to bring new hope. In the largest classifications, there remains just three vacancies: Abilene (Class 6A), and both Del Valle and Medina Valley (Class 5A).
