Cross Country runners training for the fall

Anticipating a better year on the turf, Head Coaches Lonnie Redning and Tori Lenz have initiated their annual summer conditioning program for Ennis Cross Country athletes, though they don’t officially begin organized practices until July 29. “This summer will be running mileage and doing weights to strengthen the posterior chain and lower legs,” said Redning. Examples of their training includes emphasis on hamstrings, gluteus maximus, the erector spinae muscle group, the trapezius and posterior deltoids. The common denominator relates to hip extension. Redning coaches both the varsity girls and boys teams, where he said he expects nine or more returning runners for both teams. “I think the boys team will come along nicely this season,” said the veteran XC coach. “Some of the young guys ran really well at the Polkafest run last weekend, running some smoking times.
