Cross country team full of early birds

Ennis cross country Head Coach Lonnie Redning may not be a morning person, but someone has to wake up the rooster. A veteran at recruiting and training distance runners, he has begun practices for both the boys and girls XC varsity and junior varsity teams. “Everyone is working together right now,” he said this week. “We currently have 26 runners coming every day, though that number will increase once school starts. There are some who have transportation issues.” Redning broke down the number by stating that “10 are guys and 16 are girls.” As for who will compete on the varsity, he said a decision will be made during the week of Aug. 20-25. The runners meet at 6 a.m. and conclude approximately 7:45 a.m. Redning has named David Loera and Stoney Duke as the boys captains for this season.
