District 8-5A:

Entering the 2018 football season, the nine teams who comprise the newly formed District 8-5A will be looking to their first two games to get ready for what should to be a long, eight-game league season. Since five of the nine were playoff qualifiers a year ago, a good start during the non-district contests could launch a few squads toward a jump on the competition. Don’t count on the pre-season favorite, Ennis, to come roaring out of the gate. Dating back to 2014, the Lions have produced an undistinguished 2-9 mark in the early stages, though four of the setbacks came by less than a touchdown. Each year, with less than 10 starters returning, the coaching staff was busy maneuvering players to put the best athletes in positions where needs existed. New Head Coach Sam Harrell finds himself in a similar setting as well. He not only has just eight incumbent first stringers coming back, but his squad will be establishing a new quarterback and an offensive system.
