District season begins for Lady Lions


Seven teams will take to the hardcourt, all determined to either win the crown in District 14-5A or to earn one of four berths in the state playoffs. Ennis has won back-toback league championships yet find themselves as just one of many contenders in the newly aligned district. Playing a dozen games over seven weeks should allow the cream to rise to the top. The trouble is, there are several teams who are confident they will be the one who hits their stride now that the real season has arrived. Only the 12 contests matter. Veteran Head Coach David Kilpatrick was asked about the race, and who are the teams to watch for. His reply was, well, far from specific. A dogfight is likely and he looks for the Lady Lions to be in the mix. “Midlothian, Red Oak, Cleburne and University are all playing well,” he said. “Midlothian might be the favorite right now, but it will be a battle every night.
