Lady Lions run out of gas in late loss


Ryan Nutt (left), Aubree Lelani had noteworthy performances in Wednesday’s game against Corsicana. Ennis and Corsicana agreed to move their District 14-5A softball opener from the frigid conditions of Tuesday to Wednesday. Turns out the only thing colder were the bats of the Lady Lions. Jumping to a 5-1 lead after four innings, the hosts flat-lined the rest of the way as Corsicana scored eight runs in the last inning to steal a 9-5 victory. Freshman right-hander Aubree Lalani was superb through five innings, but began to tire in the sixth. By the seventh she didn’t get three questionable calls and an unforced defensive error opened the floodgates for the visiting Tigers.
