Lady Lions trek to ‘Hachie on Tuesday

Ennis dropped their third straight and fifth game in six tries when Class 4A Fairfield thumped the Lady Lions on Tuesday at the Ensign Gym by a 50-41 count. The visitors took the lead early in the second half and were never seriously threatened the rest of the way. The hosts’ season-long shooting woes resumed from the outset. By the end of the contest they had connected on 20 percent of their tries and just 12 percent from long-distance. Broken down, the numbers reveal the Cold ‘Cats fired 34 shots from beyond the arc and 35 from inside, which explains why the team went to the foul line just 19 times. Fairfield, who nearly defeated Ennis last winter, made 16 of their 29 shots from the charity stripe. Ennis played well in spurts, though each run was followed by a more impressive counter-run by the maroon-clad Eagles. The Lady Lions led early, 5-2, before Fairfield scored the next 10 points.
