Lions defense sparks 64-55 win over Waco


Zion Manuel and Laylon Spencer served noticed that Ennis could be a threat the remainder of the season when they combined for 40 points in a 64-55 thumping of Waco University last Friday at home. The Lions got off to a solid start before the Trojans surged ahead following a 21-point showing in the second period. That is when Head Coach Roynall Bridgeforth cut the chains on a defense that would contest shots and pressure the ball throughout the second half. Down 33-26 in the third, Ennis put the clamps on the purple-clad Trojans, permitting just seven points. Manuel’s speed and slashing drives to the rack led to 20 points, including a trey and 4-of-6 free throw shooting.
