Seven weight-lifters from Ennis performed very well Kennedale last week, all of them now bound for the Class 5A, Regional No. 3 on March 7 at Tyler Robert E. Lee H.S. Veteran Head Coach Paul Willingham reported that 10 members had advanced to the area meet, with the top seven moving ahead. The number qualifying for region is indicative of the annual production of maroon-clad lifters, though the seven is the most since 2013 when nine muscled their way to regionals. Those who made the grade last week included three who finished first in their weight class and another trifecta of lifters who came in second place. One took third, but all qualified. Of the teams competing at the event, Ennis was second only to the host, Kennedale. Nolan Haden, Leo Hernandez and Camden Castillo each won their group in the 165-lb, 181-lb and the 220-lb division, and impressive feat. The threesome who were in second were Jesus Reyes (132), Robelo DeLeon (165) and Kobie Vasquez (275), while Christian Charles (123) came in third.
