Yrlas homers to pace Pride past Centerville

Aubree Lelani pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh inning to preserve a 5-3 Ennis softball victory over visiting Centerville. Played during driving mist, the Lady Lions improved their overall record to 5-7-1 while C’ville slipped to 5-3.
The 5’6 Lelani yielded an infield grounder before hitting a batter with no outs. She buckled down and retired the next batter on a fielder’s choice, leaving runners on the corners. The freshman right-hander struckout the next batter on an inside rise-ball before walking the ensuing batter to fill the bags with Tigers. Her next pitch was hit right back to her on a soft liner to end the game. It was the second time recently that she escaped a jam by pitching out of it according to Assistant Coach Josh Owens. She began the game and, coupled with the offense, staked the Lions to a 4-0 lead. A liner to her pitching hand left a sizable knot and numbness, forcing her out of the circle. Makayla Fuentes replaced her and went the next four innings. She allowed three runs on two hits, a triple doing the most damage, and two walks in the fourth before settling down.
