EISD begins interviews for football coach

Stephen Marrow, one of Ennis’ interim coaches, instructs a player during the spring football game Tuesday. A successor for football head coach Jack Alvarez is underway, and like a pancake griddle warming up, the names of potential candidates are flying like flapjacks. While the Ennis Independent School District stated this week they have not issued a statement on who is on the search committee, one social media source has listed names as well as falsely claiming the EISD made it an official statement. Communications Director Bill Honza reiterated on Friday that a finalist could be brought before the school board at the regularly scheduled June 12 meeting. Describing the date as a goal, he said that “these plans are flexible.” Stories cooking in the off-season kitchen indicate a number of interviews have already taken place, though Honza countered, emphatically, “No. (They are) not scheduled until next week at the earliest.” Alvarez was both the head coach as well as the Athletic Director, though the next hire wouldn’t necessarily have to carry both roles. David Kilpatrick is the assistant athletic director and has been at Ennis for 11 years.
