Ennis comes up short against No. 23 Red Oak

No. 23 ranked Red Oak held Ennis 28 points beneath their average in a 34-23 triumph in a District 14-5A battle of unbeatens. The Lady Hawks led throughout the game but couldn’t put away the visitors until free throws sealed a defensive stalemate. Head Coach David Kilpatrick employed a very effective zone defense that hindered a Hawks team that has won nine consecutive games. Red Oak, now 16-4 overall and 4-0 in league action, managed to make 44 percent of their season-low 26 shots, though their scoring output was 21 points under their norm. In fact, the 34 points was the second smallest total since Class 6A Keller (10-6) defeated them 43-29. “We played zone and didn’t press much,” Kilpatrick said. “It was obvious at the beginning of the game we would have some trouble with their speed and athleticism so we tried to slow them down.” Read stories like this and more in your latest edition of The Ennis News.
