Ennis powerlifters win East Texas regional

Ennis powerlifters won the Region 3, Division I meet on Thursday in Tyler for the first time since the school began competing in the sport in 1985. “We’ve probably placed third three or four times,” said Head Coach Paul Willingham, who has been at the helm since the team’s inception. He was offered the position by then Athletic Director Rommie Maxey. He hasn’t quit since, a trait common among his brawny muscle-men. “The closest we ever came was third, but we’ve never won it. We’ve sent representatives to state, but this is huge.” In fact, Ennis will have three weightlifters competing at state, the most ever.
