Ennis snuffs out Lady Dragons, 60-39

Snuffing out any magic the Lady Dragons could muster, Ennis (14-14) dominated Nacogdoches (16-9), 60-39, to take over first place in District 17-5A girls basketball. Both teams entered the Thursday night game with 3-0 marks in league play. “We want to remain unbeaten and go 10-0 in the district,” said junior Tyquanna Ross. Last year’s squad lost at Lindale and finished 9-1. “They (Nacogdoches) were the one to beat, and we put ‘em under.” The Lady Lions broke open a 5-4 lead with a 15-0 run during a 22-9 first quarter. While Ennis got a bit sloppy in their passing game in the second half, their opponent never challenged the rest of the way. Nokoia “Koko” White, the senior who was the district MVP a year ago, said the difference was simple.“It was our defense that made it all happen,” she said. “We were very aware of what they were trying to do. If we didn’t steal the ball, we got the rebound.” Read this story and more in your Weekend edition of The Ennis News. Be informed, subscribe today!
