Ennis students at Special Olympics

Ennis children and teenagers have annually participated, excelled and benefitted from the Special Olympics track meet, which has been sponsored for over 20 years by the Waxahachie ISD.

The threat of rain couldn’t deter Tuesday’s event, which was held at Lumpkins Stadium. The clouds never opened and the return of a north wind was chilly but bearable. A handful of area schools, including Italy, Ferris, Red Oak, DeSoto, Irving, and Lancaster.

This year Ennis was represented by 19 students form Travis, Lummis, the Junior High and High Schools with assistance from the Partners PE and the Broadcast Journalism classes. Ennis participated in a number of heats in the 50 meter dash and a few 25 meter dashes for the younger athletes.

Travis students Aydrie Cervantes and William Yates both placed first. Lexie Owen won a second place while Mark Cleveland and Atam Mata a third.
