Ennis to scrimmage at No. 5 Mansfield Legacy

With the regular season less than two weeks away, No. 17 Ennis and No. 5 Legacy are preparing for a scrimmage on Friday, August 24, at 7 p.m. in Mansfield. Fans will likely see several series of controlled plays with coaching staffs observing on the field, followed by a quarter or two of live plays. The Broncos, 12-3 a year ago, are led by junior playmaker Jalen Catalon. The 5’10, 175-pound athlete plays at free safety and wide receiver. Should coaches have players dress in their chosen numbers, Catalon figures to be in No. 5. In recent seasons the Lions have intentionally appeared at scrimmages in different numbers to hinder visiting scouts from other teams. There are multiple positions that Ennis coaches hope to add clarity by watching live action and studying game film. Quarterback appears to be set with junior Dyllan Santos, while sophomore Peyton Chapman is getting plenty of reps in practice. Santos has developed well through the summer. Rollouts and passing from the pocket have shown well for his arm strength, with tight spirals resulting. His elusiveness as a runner will add a huge dividend.
