Ennis tops Whitehouse 5-4, takes series

After a hard-to-swallow loss in Whitehouse on Monday, a resilient Ennis baseball team regrouped to hand the visiting Wildcats a 5-4 defeat for a split of the two-game series. “We worked our tails off,” said rightfielder Jace Brewer. “Working on basic fundamental plays and situations all week, it is satisfying to beat them and level the standings.” The Lions fell behind early, 3-0, as mistakes and hit batters by pitcher Jarron Honza put the hosts in a quick hole. “Jarron really battled back,” said assistant coach Andrew Harrison. “We didn’t play our best baseball but we gutted out a tough win.” Ennis, now 11-4 on the season and 1-1 in District 17-5A, once again outhit the Wildcats (13-4, 1-1), this time by a 10-4 count. Honza hit five batters, mostly on curve balls, and walked another, to allow the visitors a number of scoring opportunities. Read stories like this and more in your latest edition of The Ennis News.
