Ennis XC takes on regional muddy track

Mark Warde

Ennis Cross Country has an opportunity to surpass the heights of previous runners when they battle 32 girls and boys teams at the Class 5A, Region II at 9 a.m. on Monday at Grand Prairie’s Lynn Creek Park. At stake is a berth at the state meet in Austin.

The entire Lady Lions team of seven members qualified. They will be vying against approximately 250 harriers on a 5K course that figures to be more challenging after weekend flooding. A week ago it hosted the district meet.
The path at Lynn Creek will be the same as the district race, according to head coach Lonnie Redning. “With all the rain, it will be a different course,” he said on Friday. “It changes from a fleet of foot runners’ dream to a mudders course.”
