Erdmann advances to state in tennis

The Ennis Tennis team displays some team spirit. The team is sending eight players to the Region III meet. Austin Cervantes, left, congratulates his partner, Anthony Hernandez. They eliminated the No. 1 seed in the first round. Ben Erdmann stormed to the Class 5A state tennis tournament by sweeping all four of his regional opponents by a combined score of 48-10 over the weekend. The Lions sent eight tennis players to Region III in Willis (9 miles north of Conroe), an impressive feat in itself. Six finished in the top four in their division, with juniors Erdmann and Adam Taylor taking first and third in boys singles. Ennis’ best bet to advance in girls doubles was the duo of senior Tori Wilhoite and freshman Zoe Howard. They reached the semi-finals before falling, and then bounced back in the consolation final to place third. Read stories like this and more in your latest edition of The Ennis News.
