Ferris freshmen swarm to practice

Third year Head Coach Brandon Layne, known for his penchant for developing young talent, is at it again. The former offensive coordinator at Ennis when the Lions won the state championship in 2014, has 28 freshmen working out this week in preparation for the start of the varsity pre-season camp. “Altogether, we are expecting 34 freshmen for football this season,” he said, “and it starts up next Monday.” Layne believes the surge in interest and energy is a harbinger of good things to come for the Class 4A Yellow Jackets. The Black and Orange enter the season on the heals of four straight sub-.500 campaigns (15-28 record), though the Stingers are 12-10 in district games over the same time frame.
