Ferris runs by opponent

Alexis Palos darts ahead past a Mabank opponent in a big playoff victory. Heriberto Diaz, the top scorer in the Metroplex, delivered early on a breakaway following a long free kick by goalie Jacob Plaster to give Ferris (17-5-2) the only goal they would need in a 4-0 quarterfinal victory over Mabank (11-11-2) at Lion Memoral Stadium on Friday. Diaz, who has signed to play at SAGU, added another for a 2-0 halftime lead as the Yellowjackets dominated a Mabank team who had stunned Wilmer-Hutchins (14-5-1), 3-2 on overtime, earlier in the week. The Panthers rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit. Erik White, the head coach of the Jackets, has a talented group in Black and Orange this spring. Plus, they have three of the area’s top goal producers in Diaz, a 5’9 senior who has buried 33 into the net. Alexis Palos, a 5’11 junior, and 6’0 senior Yair Gonzalez, both have 22 goals. All three came through against the Panthers. Read stories like this and more in your latest edition of The Ennis News. Be informed, subscribe today!
