Football stadiums rule in Texas


Lion Memorial Stadium opened in 2000 with plenty of amenities and seating for 10,000 fans. The turf was artificial but the game on Fright nights was every bit real. In fact, in 2000, 2001 and 2004 Ennis was the class of the state, winning championships each time they advanced to the finals. Interestingly, it is the largest football stadium in Ellis County nearly two decades later. Lumpkins Stadium, the home of Waxahachie and SAGU football, may have equaled Lion Memorial at 10K, but they reduced seating by 500 when they completed renovations and improved safety elements in 2011. According to outgoing EISD Interim Superintendent Lloyd Treadwell, the stadium, which recently had work done to add volume and clarity to the sound system, has two other improvement areas in the plans.
