Former Ennis player, Chandler, named BG coach

Blooming Grove posted a 22-29 record with Lawrence Williams at the wheel, twice making the playoffs. He resigned after a 5-5 mark last fall and is now an assistant coach at DeSoto. He will be remembered for leading the Lions to a district title, their first in football since 1977 according to the Corsicana Daily Sun. Mabank DC Ervin Chandler was brought on-board on April 30 as his successor at HC and AD. BG produced 44 wins in the last 10 years, putting the Grove in a position where Chandler has his work cut out for him. He is a 2000 graduate from Ennis and played for Sam Harrell’s state semifinalist team. He earned all-conference honors as an offensive lineman (guard) and a Masters in Education at Sul Ross State. Chandler has coached for 14 years at LaGrange, Seguin and Princeton before a year at Mabank. The Panthers went 2-8. This will be his first HC gig. Chandler and his wife Trina have three children – Miakka and sons Braedon and Tyson. The Gateway Gators announced that Darrin Widemon, 48, will replace Antorio Kelly, who stepped down after two seasons, 4-8 in 2017 and 0-9 last season. Corsicana Mildred also made a change at the top when Cody Fagan left for Class 3A Whitesboro (west of Sherman). The maroon clad Eagles were 6-4 in 4-6 in Fagan’s two campaigns
