Girls district hoops season underway

Two months of preliminary games have led to the start of district play, when the most important games are played out over five weeks. In District 17-5A, girls varsity basketball teams entered their 10-game gauntlet on Friday. Ennis rolled by Corsicana, 80-31, while both Lindale and Nacogdoches also took care of business with wins to start the first of two rounds against the other five teams. Nacogdoches crushed Whitehouse, 65-41, on the road, while Lindale won at home over Jacksonville, 41-33. A year ago the Lady Lions won the district crown with a 9-1 mark, falling only to second place Lindale on the road. They played there on Tuesday night (Jan. 9), where an Ennis victory would give them a 2-0 start with their home debut coming on Friday against Whitehouse.
