GREAT DANE, DEFENSE TAMES ’DOGS – Ennis defense tames Bulldogs, offense scores on 5 straight drives

Ennis scored on five straight drives including three rushing touchdowns to win their third game in a row, 26-7, at Royse City on Friday. They lifted their overall mark to 3-2 and their District 18-5A ledger to 3-1 while the host Bulldogs slipped to 2-3 and 1-2. In a game that mirrored last week’s 14-0 triumph at North Forney, the Lions defense allowed Royse City to convert only 3-of-14 third downs with the front seven dominating the box. The Bulldogs threatened only once until they broke up the shutout with six minutes left to play. After taking the opening kickoff and advancing to the Lions 31, the Oval E’s stopped Bryce Martinez on fourth and one when Dane Vernor and Stephon Townsend applied the brakes. The Hounds did not move the chains again until trailing 26-0 in the fourth. Like last week week, junior quarterback Dyllan Santos was very efficient without exclamation point type of plays. He completed 14 of 20 passes and has yet to throw an interception through five games. James Harris labored to gain 80 yards on 19 carries. Quiet a week ago, Zion Dove reeled in 13 receptions for 84 yards. The trio united to grind out a blue-collar victory, moving the chains 15 times without a turnover.
