As the seconds ticked away in the Palmer, Maypearl game last Friday, there was a lot on the line for both teams. A win for Palmer meant at least a share of their first-ever district championship, while a win for Maypearl meant a district championship on their opponents’ turf.

A late touchdown and failed two-point conversion for Maypearl led to a 15-13 deficit with a little over two minutes left in the game. That led to an onside kick and recovery by Maypearl slotback D.J. Buik, who looked to be the hero when he took a fourth-and-seven sweep play for a touchdown with 50 seconds left on the clock.
