Lady Lions Continue Prowl

“The Three Bucketeers,” Nokoia White, left, Tyquanna Ross and Paige Lemonia, right, combined to score 38 points in the Lady Lions’ win over Lindale Friday. Ennis girls won their ninth consecutive basketball game, 57-29 over Lindale at home on Friday. The Lady Lions, now 17-14 overall, built their District 17-5A ledger to 7-0. They played at last place Whitehouse (1-6) on Tuesday while preparing for Friday’s district showdown with second place Nacogdoches, 19-9 in all games, 6-1 in league action. It is a 145 mile jaunt to the city that is home to Stephen F. Austin University and Texas’ largest azalea garden. A win by Ennis will earn them the outright district championship, rather than settling for a tie with the Lady Dragons. The Lady Lions won the first encounter, 60-39. “We have to win at Nac to win it outright,” said Head Coach David Kilpatrick. “I will be shocked if we don’t play well. We’ve played some of our best basketball in the biggest games, and I believe we will be ready.” Read this story and more in your Weekday edition of The Ennis News. Be informed, subscribe today!
