Lady Lions drop ball, game to Sunnyvale


Kenedee Yrlas swings the bat in a game earlier this year. Class 3A Sunnyvale handed Ennis a 4-1 home defeat on Tuesday when the Raiders scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning. The Lady Lions, now 7-3, played at home on Friday against Class 4A Athens. The Hornets, 12-10 a year ago, were the last opponent until after spring break (Mar. 12-16). Ennis begins district play on Mar. 20 when Nacogdoches comes to town. Sunnyvale and Ennis traded single runs in the first inning, then settled into a pitcher’s dual with seniors Cassidi Doyle and Monica Monreal, both right-handers, hanging goose-eggs until the seventh. Monreal yielded a leadoff single to right field to open the seventh. After striking out the next batter, she issued free passes on 3-2 pitches to load the bases.
