Lions fifth among 14 tennis teams

A young and determined tennis team from Ennis High School placed fifth in a tournament field

of 14 schools over the weekend at an event held at the Robert Mertz Tennis Center in

Corsicana.

The Lions combined to rack up 101 points, well behind a first place Lucas Lovejoy team that

had 134. The next nine teams were separated by only 20 points.

“I am very pleased to finish this high in this tough of a field,” said veteran Ennis head coach

Keith Howard. “We were a couple of wins from finishing in second.”

Texarkana’s Texas H.S. took second with 111 points, followed by Longview (110) and Waco

Midway (102), all who were narrowly ahead of fifth place Ennis.
