Lions Insider: Confident team has sight set on playoffs

That was an impressive effort by Ennis on Friday. Backs against the wall, they pulled off a 28-7 upset of a red-hot opponent by muscling their way to a well-deserved win. They dominated Corsicana and applied pressure aggressively and repeatedly. I got to the field and spoke with several players, like sophomore DT Deryous Stokes. He had his best game and led the charge. His performance included blocking a third quarter punt to give the team what they needed to secure the upset. “I want to thank God first,” Stokes said. “Tonight we raised our level of play heavenly. We have been working to get to this point. We have yet to play this together as one, and we showed out. We shut down everything they wanted to do and played like champions. “As for the block punt, (it was) just a moment when you’re aggressively fighting to get back there and you somehow come free. I didn’t realize it hit my hand, but my instincts was to just shoot my hands up and I blocked it.” Read stories like this and more in your latest edition of The Ennis News.
