Lions recognize players at baseball bash

Following one of the best seasons in a decade, Ennis baseball players shared in the memories, honors, awards and a few good laughs at Tuesday’s post-season bash at the Ensign Commons.

The Lions varsity assembled a 22-9 season that included a second place finish in District 14-5A with a 14-3 mark. The Ennis Daily News will soon publish a season recap along with complete team statistics.

First year head coach Bob Macy and the staff from the varsity and junior varsity (white and maroon) teams was cited, with awards and achievements ensuing. The summarized results included:

JV White

Kade Bragg – Pitcher of the year

Jarron Honza and Ryan Casas – Offensive players of the year

Chris Gonzales – Defensive player of the year

JV Maroon

Justin LaFollett – Pitcher of the year

Chase Woods – Offensive player of the year

Jacob Chapman – Defensive player of the year

2016 Varsity

Team Awards

Mason Hopkins – MVP

Emiliano Gomez – Pitcher of the year

Taylor Daniell – Offensive player of the year

Jacob Honza – Defensive player of the year

Todd Forbes – Tim Guana bronze spikes, awarded by Kevin Kalinec

District, State Recognition

Mason Hopkins – 1st Team All-District Pitcher, Elite All-State Academic

Emiliano Gomez – All-District Pitcher of the Year

Taylor Daniell – 1st Team All-District Third Base

Jacob Honza – All-District Defensive Player of the Year

Kyle Keever – 2nd Team All-District Outfielder, Honorable Mention All-State Academic

Specialty Awards – given by Jodie Honza

Mason Hopkins – Most Dehydrated player

Ian Baker – Dirtiest uniform

Thomas McCullough – Pete Rose look-a-like

Jacob Honza – Guaranteed to get hit by a pitch

Jaylyn DelaCruz – Voo Doo Master
