LIONS SLOW OUT OF THE GATE

Waxahachie continued their recent mastery over Ennis by scoring three touchdowns in the first ten minutes en rout to a 54-32 victory to spoil the return of Lions coach Sam Harrell. The Indians scored long TDs on three of their first four possessions to take control and extend their winning streak in the series to four in a row. It also made new coach Todd Alexander’s debut a triumphant one. Playing before an estimated 8,000 fans at Lion Memorial Stadium, many expecting immediate magic from Harrell, saw little in the way of big plays on offense. What the hosts were able to do was run the ball, mostly between the tackles, while showing the looks of a spread attack. Three and four receiver sets did not cause the Hachie defense to focus on the flanks as the Lions passing game was punchless. Junior quarterback Dyllan Santos spent much of the game running the ball or running for his life. James Harris, the feature back, got less carries in the first half than Santos.
