Lions stave off Corsicana, 53-43

Ennis grabbed a quick 9-2 lead and never relinquished it in a 53-43 home triumph over Corsicana, the second win over the Tigers this season. Two weeks ago the Lions whipped the Striped Cats in a non-district game, 51-40, at the Midlothian Hoopfest. Both games have been hardfought, defensive efforts. They will meet one more time, Jan. 22, in Corsicana. By winning for the third time in five tries, Ennis improved to 4-13 overall and 1-0 in District 14-5A. They were tied with Red Oak (15-3) and Midlothian (11-6) at 1-0 entering Friday’s action, where the Lions had a tough date with the Hawks. New Head Coach Roynal Bridgeforth has this year’s Lions playing a much better brand of defense and a more patient style on offense. Following an 0-8 start and a 1-11 ledger through a dozen contests, the team has shown signs of improved chemistry and a disciplined attack on offense, elements missing in recent years.
