Lions win streak on the line against Corsicana

Rare as Sahara rain, the Ennis varsity tennis team has begun the fall season with back-to-back losses, though both came against state-ranked opposition. Aledo, No. 8 ranked in Class 5A, topped Ennis, 12-7, in the opener. A week later it was Kaufman, who finished last season at No. 8 in Class 4A. They handed No. 18 Ennis an 11-8 setback. Both defeats occurred on the road. The Lions, who graduated seven regulars from last year’s squad, are expected to be a state contender again. Winning their district has become a foregone conclusion, though this fall the Lions are in a new, seven-team league. Cleburne, Corsicana, Joshua, Midlothian, Red Oak, Waco’s University High School, with two of them, Corsicana and Red Oak, ranked statewide.
