To the victor goes the spoils, along with plenty of hardware, too. The Texas Sports Writers Association released their Class 5A All-State Team and it reflects both the Division I champions, Aledo, and Ennis, the kingpins in Division II.

Luke Bishop, the quarterback for the Bearcats, took the Offensive Player of the Year honor for leading Aledo to a 15-1 season that included a 49-45 win over Temple (13-2) in the title game. Their lone loss came at home the hands of California’s Bishop Amat (9-4), 42-7.

James Lockhart, the Lions defensive end, garnered the Defensive Player of the Year for his part as the cog in the wheel of Ennis’ 14-2 campaign. The Lions topped Cedar Park (12-4), 38-35, at AT&T Stadium to claim their championship crown.
