Palmer thwarts late Mildred rally, 50-47

Palmer coach Ryan Fortenberry speaks to his team during a timeout. Contending for a playoff berth, Palmer established an impressive lead over Corsicana Mildred and staved off a furious comeback to post a 50-47 boys basketball victory on Tuesday. In the process, the host Bulldogs avenged a 48-41 overtime setback in December to earn a split in the season series and move into a tie for fourth place in District 17-3A. Ryan Fortenberry, the veteran head coach at Palmer, gave credit to the visiting Eagles for a valiant effort in the fourth quarter. His team, however, would not be denied.
