Rally foiled in seventh, Ennis falls, 5-4

Trying to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat was frustrated when a bases loaded with no

outs opportunity produced only one run as Ennis came up short, 5-4, at Mansfield Legacy on

Tuesday. A win would’ve moved the Lady Lions into a first place tie.

“Both teams came to play and it was a very good game,” said Kendal Newton, the Ennis head

coach. “We had our chances, but in the end, they put the ball in play where our fielders

weren’t.”

The statement reminds of the all-time classic quote from Hall of Famer Wee Willie Keeler. In

1898 the best hitter of his day was asked about his secret to batting. His reply; “Hit ’em where

they ain’t.”
