SAGU football kicks off season Today
Giving the nation their first taste of college football, No. 22 ranked Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) travels to Ozark, Missouri to face Evangel College at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN3. The Lions went 8-3 a year ago, including 7-1 in conference play, while Evangel was 7-4. SAGU has two former Ennis players currently in Waxahachie. Defensive End Torie (Toriante) Williams and most recently, running back Tre Elliott, who transferred from Mt. San Antonio College in California. Langston (Ok) won the conference in 2017 with a 10-1 record, 8-0 in league games, including a 14-10 victory over SAGU at Lumpkins Stadium. SAGU was second, while Oklahoma Panhandle State (7-3 / 6-2) was third after dropping from NCAA Division II to join the NAIA. Arizona Christian (7-3 / 5-3) and Lyon College (Ark) (6-5 / 4-4) were the top five teams. Bacone College (Ok) (3-8), Texas College (2-8), Texas Wesleyan (1-10) and Wayland Baptist (Tx) (0-10) rounded out the conference.
