SAGU names new head coach; Harrell remains on staff

Southwestern Assemblies of God University, whose football program had been coming on of late, announced the hiring of a new head coach on Friday when they agreed to terms with Ryan Smith. Smith, who is 35, played quarterback at SAGU for four years, finishing in 2004 after being named an NAIA Preseason All-American and earned two NAIA National Player of the Week honors as a senior. He owns most every passing record for the Lions, including most yards (519) in a game. Now Smith returns to his alma mater to take the reins of a team that has gone 8-3 twice during the past three seasons. Read stories like this and more in your latest edition of The Ennis News.
