SAGU reels in new baseball coach, Cornacchione

Southwestern Assemblies of God University tabbed Matt Cornacchione as the Lions new baseball head coach on Wednesday. SAGU, who resurrected the program in 2002, made Cornacchione the fifth coach during that time span. He held the same position the previous nine years at Nyack College, which is 29 miles north of New York City. The school with an enrollment of 1,600, is an NCAA Division II member. The Warriors experienced a huge turnaround under Cornacchione, going from 3-35 in 2011 to a 26-28 ledger the next season. It was the second biggest turnaround nationally in NCAA Division II. He follows Sam Blackmon, who resigned the last week in June. Serving five seasons (70-183 .457) at the Waxahachie-based school of 2,200, he now takes over at Grace Community School in Tyler. The move allows him to return near his family in East Texas. Read stories like this and more in your latest edition of The Ennis News. Be informed, subscribe today!
