SAGU Knocks No. 6 Wayland From First

Little Joe Valdez, Texas Wesleyan, Ennis’ Kiara Glenn (1) Former Ennis star Kiara Glenn scored 10 points, including four in the final 1:38 as Southwestern Assemblies of God University stunned No. 6 ranked Wayland Baptist (Tex), 67-62, knocking the Flying Queens out of first place on Saturday, the last day of the regular season. The victory gave the Lady Lions a 20-10 record and a 14-8 mark in the 12-team Sooner Athletic Conference. Finishing in fourth place, they were set to host fifth place Mid-America Christian University (Ok), 20-8 and 14-8 in Waxahachie on Tuesday, Feb. 26. A win would advance SAGU to the semi-finals of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament on Friday, Mar. 1, in Oklahoma City. The Lady Lions were coming off back-to-back losses, both by three points, one of them in double overtime, while Wayland was riding an eight-game winning streak, including a 76-61 win over No. 10 ranked Oklahoma City that tied them for first.
