Shaw set to report to Mets camp in February

Ennis native Joseph Shaw will report to camp in February for his fourth full season in the New York Mets baseball farm system after overcoming two years of injuries at Double A Binghamton (NY). The former All-District standout for the Ennis Lions graduated from Dallas Baptist University and was drafted by the Mets. DBU competes in Division I of the NCAA’s Missouri Valley Conference. He has spent time with the Kingsport (Tenn) Mets (Rookie League), Columbia (S.C.) Fireflies (Class A), St. Lucie Mets (Class A Advance), and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Class AA). The Mets highest farm team was in Las Vegas before moving this year to Syracuse, NY, 75 miles north of Binghamton. Triple A is the top level in the minor leagues, one rung lower than the majors. That is the goal this year for Shaw. His 2017 season was cut short due to an elbow injury, before missing much of the 2018 campaign with a sore shoulder. Fortunately for the 6-foot-5, 230-pound righthander, neither required surgery. “Just rehab and rest,” he said this week. “Going into 2019 I’m feeling good. I report to St. Lucie in late February.” Read stories like this and more in your latest edition of The Ennis News. Be informed, subscribe today!
