Standout wideouts

Sports Editor’s Note: This is the second in a three-part series on Ennis Lions’ best receivers. The first was published on Aug. 5th and extra copies remain available. It’s one thing to tote the rock and another challenge to throw it. Catching it, however, offers a different degree of difficulty altogether. When trying to grab the oblong pigskin, however, sometimes it involves running downfield and waiting until it arrives or, attempting to latch onto it while running in full stride. Not an easy task, especially when a defender is closing in with an intent to prevent the catch or to separate the receiver from the ball, his head or his senses, if not all three. Through the years Ennis has had its share of outstanding players, with those who catch the ball being among fan favorites. Here is a description of standout wideouts since the 1990’s, some described by Hall of Fame head coach Sam Harrell, as well as a handful of big grabs from the mouths of those who made them.
