Tigers nail playoff berth, top Ennis 7-4
Freshman Mattie Beakley cranked a mammoth two-run homer to give Ennis an early 3-0 lead but Corsicana answered with seven quick runs and made them stand for a 7-4 tie-breaking victory over the Lady Lions on Monday night. The defeat ended the season for Ennis, while the win propelled the Tigers into fourth place and a berth in the state playoffs. Both teams finished the regular season knotted in fourth with 3-7 records in District 17-5A. Ennis lost for the eighth time in ten games to wrap-up a disappointing season with an 11-11 win/loss record. In that steep downswing they often faded late in games, were mercied three times and outscored 48-15 in dropping their final five contests. Team Maroon, 10-14 last spring, missed the playoffs and were in fifth place for the second consecutive year. They were also 3-7 at home.
