Too little, too late

Nokoia White drives through the lane in the Lady Lions regional quarterfinal matchup with Temple Tuesday. Cold shooting helped snap a 14-game winning streak as Ennis (22-15) came up short, 53-46, to No. 8 Temple (29-5) on Tuesday at Waco Parkway. The defeat, their first since a 43-36 setback to No. 11 Cedar Park (30-7) seven weeks ago. The Lady Lions beat College Station (75-50) and No. 20 Leander Rouse (48-47) before falling to the Tem-Cats in the Class 5A regional quarterfinals. Known for their defense, Temple grabbed a quick 4-0 lead and never relinquished it. On the strength of two inside baskets by junior Tiana Murray-Lewis, Ennis pulled to within 12-10 after the first quarter. Trailing 8-2, Team Maroon, who made just 4-of-17 shots in the opening period, managed to tie the game at 14 on a Tyquanna Ross layup and a power deuce by Lewis when she converted a dime from a slashing senior Nokoia White.
